University of Balochistan yet again closed!!
By Syed Wakeel Ahmed
University of Balochistan, the pioneer Government university in the province is yet again closed for all the students and faculty members, it is quite flabbergasting that this time it is the faculty members who suspended the university and boycotted from the classes.
The joint action committee of UOB yesterday has released a statement in which they pondered on boycotting from classes further in the university, prior to the excesses of the VC. Statement of the JAC of UOB claimed that there salaries of last 2 months are not been issued to them by the VC which is affiliated with government of Balochistan directly, which is why they had to take this conglomerator step of boycotting from taking classes further until or unless they are not issued there salaries.
This is not the only time the university has been closed, just before it ushered in late march after vocational sabbatical’s. The UOB have been remained closed or vehemently suspended owing to various repugnant issuances, this time it is on basis of the salaries been not given to the staff on its due date.
Talking of my self it’s been almost four years of me being enrolled in this university, and I’m about to graduate later this year in June/July, since i am the student of this university i have not seen a single peaceful month in this university, the university has always remained a battle ground or a protest junction for different bodies.
In 2019 when i joined university, fortunately i studied complete 6 months means a complete first semester, with complete course, and that perhaps went absolutely fine, in late 2019 the Covid calamity remained a fence, due to which university had to remain close, and a complete year was dissipated of mine and thousands of students, later on…even after the Covid there was no single ecstatic month in the University.
University remained closed forcefully again for 2 months, in late 2021 by the students on the unceremonious abduction of 2 Baloch students from the hostel, which costed every student a lot.
After that, every month has remained a bad dream, protest by faculty members on salaries, protest by students on exams cancellations, fee issues and other tumultuous issues have been happening relentlessly till date, well these are not the only complications due to which university remained close in the past, one of the major problems which sadly is the factional battles between different student ethnic groups in the university.
The UOB is welly known for fighting ground, an institution known for a lot of dismal sabbaticals, and other implacable names which no students enrolled in this university would indeed like to hear, has no university in Baluchistan remain’s off on internal matters has the pioneer UOB itself.
In my last 4 years i don’t remember i have taken classes simultaneously for 2 years even, I am now in 8th semester about to graduate even my last semester is of 4 months instead 6, and in these four months I have to complete subjects study, assignments, presentations, and most importantly the pivotal research which is not possible in 4 months at all, now this unwanted sabbatical will make it even more unfeasible, the last 7 semester of mine and every student a part from first have consisted and sticked to 40 days the first 3 semesters, and rest for 4 months which is nothing but a jumping over in hurry through semesters, In these 4 months students will have to cover a huge course, assignments, presentations, and exams without mid and final, but directly final, which impels students to follow unworthy way of giving exams, some does cheating, and some memorising through (Ratification) and this has been the worst problem of every student now a days, following the Ratta way and memorising just a night before the exams, which sadly is the ultimate reason we don’t produce, scientists, good engineers, Doctors, teachers and even sharpe minds, the culture that has been made and carried is a worse one, and this Ratta culture is eventually spreading from generations to generations, notwithstanding, going into the detail and knowing about the topics depth student feels snug in remembering it for the time being, which is why they lack knowledge, which is why they don’t remember what they were taught in the previous semester, and this indeed is not because of the teachers but the system with zero structural planing made by government.
Students can not remember the course of 6 months in 40 days or 4months, and when they are forced they feel relax of choosing inappropriate way which for the time being feels good, and works out but in future they blame harshly the institution and the teachers and the system, it is because they realise later.
I, in conversation asked my friend how is your study going, what will you do after graduating this year, he replied, laughing…“ I only remember what i was taught in first semester after that semester i swear i don’t remember a single word been taught in the rest of 7 semesters”. And this is not the problem of my friend only but, every student has this issue, the students with 4CGPA with respect to there grades faces the issue of not knowing even the definition of there past topics, again it’s not the students or teachers I’m blaming here, but we have been living in such a system made by the government to us, the culture is been made the Ratta one rather than knowing the structure of topic, or understanding the topics.
neither the students nor teachers accountable for all but, it’s the government who has been remained skeptical, failed, in providing the system where quality education is taught, the VC who is directly affiliated with government has been completely failed in providing facilities to its employees, and the students, the government has no plans, no roadmaps, and even no idea of how the education system can be restored, can be renewed, can be modernised. The responsible bodies should have to take serious precautions, they should have to get involve in solving issues of the employees and students of the largest and pioneer university of the province, and making education more easy, more better rather worsen.
